The Poncho, cape or blanket indicates protection. It is a simple and versatile garment used by the indigenous populations of Latin America. It was made of a single rectangular piece of wool with a central opening to pass the head through. It became known in Italy because it was habitually worn by Garibaldi and later in western films at the cinema and on TV. Garment adopted by the population of Chile to have freer movements when riding. The poncho also symbolizes "the seamless tunic" worn by Jesus when he was taken to the crucifixion. This gives sacredness to this garment.
